La Caverne

Based on The Allegory of The Cave by Plato, the story touches upon the estranged relationship between a mother figure and a deaf eleven-year old boy.

Born deaf, Nemesis (11) spends his life feeling disconnected to his reality. He daydreams about his desires and interactions with his mom – Carmen (30) – and wishes to hear her voice in hope to connect deeper with her. Their estranged relationship becomes prominent when he starts seeing the younger boy with a red balloon who represents juvenile freedom that Nemesis lacks, represented through him but also with the red balloon he carries.

As I wrote and directed this eight-minute film, the goal was to allow the audience to not only connect and see the world through Nemesis' eyes, but to also explore to what extent it's important to accept who we are and communicate that to others. I aimed to inspire and make the audience 'dream' whilst still remaining grounded.
